 Background

The Cooperative College opened its doors to the public on 23rd October 1979 as a Cooperative Management Training Institution under the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives. Since then, the College has expanded its scope of activities to include training in Agribusiness Management, and other related areas.

Vision

To become a key professional resource centre for offering cooperative, entrepreneurial and agribusiness studies for social and economic development

Mission Statement

To provide quality training, research and consultancy in cooperatives, entrepreneurship, agribusiness and other cross-cutting issues such as gender and HIV/AIDS to emerging and established co-operators, entrepreneurs and development facilitators based on “learning by doing” approach.

Courses      

The college runs the following long and short term courses:

Long Term Academic Programs

Two (2) year certificate course in Cooperative Development and Agribusiness Management (CDAM). 

The minimum entry requirement is a full grade twelve certificate or equivalent with at least five passes including English and Mathematics. Mature age entrants must have a minimum of Trade Test Level 1 certificate in a related discipline, two years experience and at least three passes at Grade 12.

Three (3) year diploma course in Agribusiness Management (DAM). 

The minimum entry requirement is a full grade twelve certificate or equivalent with credits in English, Mathematics, a science subject and any other two subjects. Mature age entrants must have a minimum of Trade Test Level 4 certificate in a related discipline and two years working experience.

Short term Residential and Customized Courses

The College offers a number of residential and customized courses in cooperatives, agribusiness, agricultural marketing, and other agribusiness related areas.

Research and Consultancy

The college provides consultancy services on community and national development aspects. Utilizing a multidisciplinary team of training specialists, the college develops training materials and conducts training of trainers’ courses

Training Facilities and Resources

The college is endowed with modern training facilities with the latest software and teaching aids. The conference rooms, library and Computer labs are air-conditioned to provide a conducive learning environment.

Boarding and Lodging Facilities:

The College has 47 double lodging rooms, with warm water, excellent ventilation and lighting. The facilities are primarily for use by college students but capacity is available and suitable for hire by other organizations and individuals for seminars, workshops and conferences

Recreation

The College offers a variety of excellent sporting and recreation facilities for use by students and workshop participants. It has social amenities which include a TV room, basketball and tennis courts, football and netball pitches. Many other games including chess, darts and pool are played. Games and matches are regularly arranged with other institutions. Cooperative College is a member of both the Zambia Federation of Universities and Colleges Sports and Agricultural Colleges Sports Association (AGRICOSA).

Printing Unit

Our printing unit is specialized in computerized typesetting, graphic designing, and lithographic full colour separation. It is well equipped for handling industrial and commercial printing jobs ranging from books, brochures, annual reports, newsletters, leaflets, ledgers, wall and desk calendars, posters, letterheads, and commercial documents

Cooperative College Farm

The college has a demonstration farm within the campus which is managed on a commercial basis and is also used for students field practice. The farm provides examples of good practice in the promotion of sustainable agriculture. Its main enterprises are: piggery, goat, broiler, egg, vegetable, banana and maize production.
