Brief Background

The Mwarona College of Education was established in 2006 and is one of the first private colleges to open in Lusaka. It was founded by the late Mr. J.K. Mwansa. The founder of Mwarona College of education looked at investment opportunities available in Zambia and concluded that investment in education would contribute to poverty alleviation and to the socio-economic development of Zambia by increasing the number of graduates with college education.

On 1st, January, 2009 Mwarona College of Education signed a memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with City University College of Science and technology that established partnership initially for four years and renewable for another four years. The MOU allowed MCE to utilize CUSE curricula and participation of CUSE staff in lecturing making and supervision of MCE students. The college will still go head to partner with other Universities so that it has all the standard and degree programmes that education offers.

1. Early Childhood

The Early childhood programs at the Mwarona college of Education was created in the year 2009 and there are about 200 students so far graduated under this faculty. Most of the students who graduate under this faculty are employed in the Government sector. There are certificate and Diploma graduates in the early childhood.

i. Courses Under Certificate Level

Child Psychology,Educational Research methods, History and Philosophy of Early childhood,Education, Health Education, Teaching methods and production of Teachers Learning aid, Sociology of Education, Entrepreneurship Education and Information and Communication Technology.

ii. Courses Under Diploma Level

Language Development and literacy, Creative Expressive arts, Mathematics,Environmental Science and Social Studies.

Admission Criteria

In order to be admitted to the early childhood teaching program, one has to fulfill the following conditions: He/She must have obtained five O,levels with english included, and with a minimum of five credits entry qualifications. Program Duration is 2 years.

2. Secondary Diploma

The Secondary Diploma was created in the year 2006 and the first graduation was in the year 2008 with the total number of 75 students and the second group of 50 students graduated in the year 2013 of which all have been employed in the Government sector.

Subject Combination

English and Religious Education, English and Geography, Mathematics and Geography, Mathematics and Religious Education, Civic Education and Religious Education, Civic Education and History,Civic Education and Geography,History and Geography,History and Mathematics,Accounts and Commerce, Mathematics, English,English and Civic Education and Commerce.

The Core Courses

Educational Psycology,Education media technology,History and Philosophy Education,Sociology of Education,Theory and practice of Education.

Admission Criteria

In order to be admitted to the this program, one has to fulfill the following conditions: He/She must have obtained five O,levels with english, maths and science inclusive, and with a minimum of five credits entry qualifications. Program Duration is 3 years.

3. Primary Diploma

The Primary Diploma was created in the year 2006 and about 200 students have Graduated so far and employed in the Government sector. There are about 60 students so far studying for their Diploma in Primary Diploma and most of them will be graduating in the year 2015. The Institution is still enrolling for the June Intake.

Target Groups

The program under the Primary teachers Diploma Education Targets the grade Twelve(12) School Leavers and further studies students.

Admission Criteria

In order to be admitted to the early childhood teaching program, one has to fulfill the following conditions: He/She must have obtained five O,levels with english, maths and science included, and a minimum of five credits entry qualifications. Program Duration is 3 years solid.

4. The Zambia Teachers Certificate Course

The ZATEC was created in the year 2006 and about 200 students have Graduated so far and employed in the Government sector. There are about 60 students so far studying for their ZATEC qualifications.
