The Centre is located in Namalundu 100 km south of Lusaka off Chirundu road, in the vicinity of Zambia’s largest hydropower station Kafue Gorge Power Station.


Kafue Gorge Regional Training Centre (KGRTC) is a long established institution for hydropower training, which was rehabilitated and transformed to provide quality training to regional power utilities. The Centre has also earned an international reputation in the provision of excellent accommodation and conference facilities and is ISO 9001 quality certified. Its unique location in a tranquil environment, allows flexible scheme of study and conferencing. The proximity of the mountains and gorges offer many opportunities for outdoor pursuits and relaxation.  More than 5000 people live in Namalundu Village. Out of these, approximately 300 are employed by Zesco limited and 64 by KGRTC. The village has all social facilities to cater for educational, commercial, recreation and religious activities.

Training

KGRTC has made substantial investment in training aids with Hi-Tech infrastructural facilities for conducting different courses on technical as well as management subjects covering the needs of Hydropower Generation, Transmission & Distribution Systems, and other Energy related fields. The Centre has two simulators, one a computerised simulator depicting a 300 MW hydro power station and one conventional simulator with the capacity of 150 MW. KGRTC has also invested in the power and hydraulic laboratories and computer based training facilities. There are now over 3,000 course participants from various African utilities who have attended courses at KGRTC.

A variety of teaching methods are employed to implement training programmes which include formal lectures, tutorials and study tours coupled with practice on state-of-the-art laboratory equipment, and various software packages and simulators. KGRTC has established a Demonstration Site for Emergency Restoration Systems (ERS) Towers Equipment in
partnership with Acier Profile SBB Inc (SBB) of Canada

Conferences

The Centre has earned itself an international reputation in provision of excellent conference facilities ideal for business in a quiet, comfortable and serene environment. KGRTC offers impeccable conference services, cutting-edge technology and qualified conference support staff. All our conference rooms are spacious with air conditioning, equipped with over head projector, white board, LCD television and projector, VCR, Public Address System, and flip chart stand, set to individual client’s requirement.

Accommodation

The Centre has seventy seven (77) tastefully appointed spacious rooms with comfort in mind. The rooms include Executive, Standard, Family and Single rooms. All rooms are self contained and fully furnished with DSTV, fridge, air conditioned, study table and chair.  

Restaurant and Bar

Our Restaurants and Oasis Mingling Bar infuse local flavour and authentic atmosphere of first-rate cuisine and premium drinks.

Internet

Our guests can enjoy free wireless internet available at different hotspots and from the comfort of their guest rooms. In addition the Centre has an internet café located in the library.
