College Mandate
The college was established under it’s original name ‘King George VI Memorial Youth Training Centre and Research Centre in 1957 by Northern Rhodesia Youth Council and was opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother in 1967. The College is attributed to King George the VI.
The MSYCD’s core role is to provide skills for out of school youth. The Ministry contributes to the alleviation of youth challenges through establishment of Youth Resource Centers which total up to 18 offering survival skills training that have this college at the apex.
King George VI is an umbrella college that provides in-service training to the ministry’s staff under Youth Department as well as other youth workers. The college is working with interest groups as IICD, NYDC and CYP It is a TEVETA affiliate.
The college intends to reintroduce a diploma course in Youth Development as it focuses on the development of youths.
The college has intentions of linking itself with international organizations for the purpose of collaboration.

Catchment
The institution is tasked to offer in – service training to all youth workers drawn from within the ministry as well as from formal youth organizations.
Provincial youth co-coordinators offices identify the needy youths and facilitate the participation of such youths in programmes stated over leaf.
In-service programmes are tailored to suit the work plans of the target staff running the eighteen youth resource centers all over the country. For such students the institution is there to sharpen their delivery skills.
The institution’s core business is coupled with the need to provide for the vulnerable youths that may need a skill for their own survival.

Who is eligible to train with us?    
Unlike other tertiary institutions, king George National Youth College places less emphasis on academic qualifications of youths who would be trained at the institution.  It is the management’s strong belief that that every and any individual is in need of a skill in order to better one’s chances of facing life's challenges with confidence.
Youths who might have not excelled in academics are not failures in life but can make tangible contribution to self and national development.  Hence skills imparting remains vitally important..
